Chris Smyth is an independent environmental consultant with a major focus on marine and coastal research and writing. Chris was the Marine and Coastal Coordinator at the Victorian National Park Association (VNPA) from 2015-2017, including stints as VNPA’s Executive Director and Program Manager.
Up until October 2012, Chris was the Healthy Oceans Campaigner at the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) where his work focused on the establishment of marine protected areas, ecosystem-based regional marine planning, national marine legislative reform and sustainable seafood.
Since 2000 Chris has focused on marine and coastal advocacy – national & marine parks, with the Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA) and national marine planning & reserves, & relevant law reform, with the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF).
Chris will advise us on the contentious changes recently proposed – in the form of management plans – for Australia’s 21st Century national marine reserves. How can we rule the oceans wisely?
